Bogorodsk, settled at least 500 years ago, is an old, rather small, town situated about 40 miles from Moscow. It lies directly in the heart of a grand Russian forest. Here, master wood carvers developed and enhanced their skills, tools and secrets and handed down carving traditions through a great many generations. Interestingly, although the town was renamed Noginsk in 1930, it and it's woodcarvers still prefer the name Bogorodsk. After all, the name is compounded from two Russian words meaning "God" (Bog) and "born of" (rod). Please take a good look at these lovingly-made wood carvings. As commercialism filters through Russia, these carvings will cease to exist. In most cases, one of each shown only.
