Wood Carvings from Russia

       Playful carved wooden sculptures, toys and figures have come down from the ancient settlement of Bogorodsk, where master wood carvers plied their trade through many generations. Set a wooden ball on a string into motion, then the bear (a favorite character, but not an exclusive one) will perform by playing the drums or piano, juggle, or a whole variety of comical actions. Some toys are activated by push-buttons. These carvings, both today's and yesterday's, are prized by collectors young and old. Common scenes include: Bears Playing Chess, Bear Showering, Rabbit Rowing a Boat, Casino Bears, Bear Playing Piano, Bear Roasting Mushrooms and many, many more.
