Beautiful hand painted Russian Easter eggs The Russian Shop / Maison Russe 800-778-9404
The Deposition of the Robe Church (Rizopolozhenskaya) stands on Cathedral Square in the Moscow Kremlin. It was built in 1484-1485 by masters from Pskov, most likely by the same builders who built The Cathedral of the Annunciation, which is nearby. The name of the church can be translated as the Church of the Virgin's Robe, The Church of the Veil or simply Church of the Deposition. It refers to a 5th century AD festival that celebrated an event in which the robe of the Virgin Mary was taken to Constantinople to protect that city. At one time, the Church served as the private chapel of the Patriarch of Moscow. This egg is painted and decorated with an image of the Theotokos and Christ on one side and the Deposition Church on the other side. Hand made and painted Easter egg, made in Russia. 6 3/4"with a matching decorated egg stand. Matte finish, wood burning decorations, gold paint.
