Bielorus Straw Inlay Panno.
Bielorussian Madonna. The straw used is a special variety of rye that is neatly harvested with a scythe, then boiled in a potassium solution to achieve the proper colors. The cut-into-shape straw is fastened and covered with an oil lacquer. Straw inlay plaque, 8 1/4" x 11 3/4". Made in USSR, late 1980s.
