Tikhvin's Bogorodichno-Uspenskij Monastery was founded in 1560 on the place of the miraculous occurrence of Holy Icon of the Mother of God, which took place there in 1383. The original icon was removed from Russia around the time of WWII, as a means to preserve it from communist forces, and was returned to the monastery in 2004, with great celebration.
