Hand Made Icon The Russian Shop / Maison Russe 800-778-9404
This icon is the Mother of God of Tolga, named after the Tolga river in Yaroslavl. It is the Eleusa type, which means Tenderness in Greek (and Umileniye in Russian.) The Mystery of the Incarnation is depicted here through the way Mother and Child are connected - one beholding the divinity, the other humanity. Christ, as a Child, touches his Mother's face with one hand and presses His cheek against Hers. Her gaze foresees the Passion and She embraces Him affectionately and maternally. In the icon, four saints are also depicted standing and facing the main subjects in reverance. 10 x 12¾ inches. Only one in stock. Painted icon encased within a beautiful high-relief, silver-plated oklad (or "vestment.")Russian Hand Painted Icons Diptych Icons |
