Embossed lid, entitled, "View of Moscow from the Kremlin." Christ the Savior Cathedral is shown as it appeared before its destruction by Stalin. Embossed royal ormalu, and perched eagles amidst lithographed, swirling malachite. Mansfield Lithoplate #545. This box might be as early as circa 1901, under King Edward VII; the biscuit manufacturers, W&R Jacob &co. Ltd. are, at this time, under "appointment to H.M. the King." It could be as late as 1930, under George V. The cathedral was destroyed in 1931, and rebuilt and rededicated in 2000. A book about the Jacob Biscuit Co. was published in 2001. They have made biscuits since 1851. 7"x4.5"x5". CONDITION: No dents, solid structure. Many scratches; one foot has been resoldered and subsequently glued on. See pictures below. |
