The brass lizard on top of this magnificent box represents the "Malachite Queen" who sometimes takes the form of a lizard wearing a crown in various Russian folk tales, best known is "The Stone Flower." She reigns over the great Ural Mountain range from her throne on Copper Mountain. The box is made of Russian serpentine, a semi-precious stone, from (where else?) the Ural Mountains. Gold plated feet. Excellent condition. 3"x 3"x 2.5" tall. More pictures below.
