     Signed: "Pimen Patiarch of Moscow and All Russia 1977." On the left is a typed memo overlayed on embossed Patriarchal stationary (with Pimen's seal) with the information that the photo was presented to a local Russian Orthodox priest on July 18, 1977 at St. Sergius-Holy Trinity Lavra on the Feast Day of St. Sergius in Zagorsk, Russia. Photo is 4"x6", with signature 5 1/4" x 8 3/4". Elegant silver leaf frame and tan mat is 14" x 20". Excellent condition (some light and photographer reflections visible in photo only). Patriarch Pimen I, born Sergey Mikhailovich Izvekov in 1910 in the town of Bogorodsk, was the 14th Patriarch of Moscow and served as head of the Russian Orthodox Church from 1971 to 1990. In 1954 Pimen was made abbot of St. Sergius-Holy Trinity Lavra. 7 years later, he was appointed Metropolitan of Leningrad and Ladoga. After the death of Patriarch Alexius I Metropolitan Pimen was elected Patriarch Pimen I of Moscow and All Russia in 1971 and served until his death in 1990.
