| Gorodets Folk Painting.
Gorodets is a very
old town on the Volga River near Nizhni Novgorod. The name derives from
the Russian diminutive for town (literally "small town", or
"smallville"). It was founded in 1152 by Grand Prince (Knyaz) Yuri
Dolgoruky who also founded Moscow (in 1147). Decorative painting on
wood from Gorodets relies on folk motifs and lively primary colors.
"Gorodets Proud Rooster Cutting Board". Bright rooster motif with flower and berry surround.
Cutting board is meant as a decorative article and should not be used for cutting.
Painted and lacquered on wood. USSR, circa 1985. 5 3/4"x 12".
