Archangel Michael. Mstera, 2008. T. Rayeva. ![]() Click for a closer view. | The name Michael means "like unto God". Here he wears, not his traditional red, but blue
and white garments, and holds a spear in his right hand. His wings are
prominent and he bears a translucent globe, a symbol of God, Whom he
serves. Inside the globe is an image of a baby in swaddling clothes,
which represents the soul. This icon was formed in the belief that
Archangel Michael takes the souls of the dead with the Guardian Angel.
