The Khorovod is a combination of circle dance and ensemble singing. The young men try to break into the circle. The artist has painted an interesting study with ten figures in a small space. The well was a traditional meeting place for the exchange of information. Two young girls talk while the little girl listens. A village spreads out behind them. Egg tempera, lacquer, gold, silver. Maiden in shimmering blue dress dancing the Russian folk dance "Platochik". Oil paints, lacquer, metallic powders, silver. Papier-mache small hinged box. Note: very slight and small lacquer "ding" just to the left -- visible in picture. Minor scuffing bottom of box. 3¼"x2¼"x¾". $165.

The famous song lyric of N. Nekrasov (1821-1878) tells the tale of Vanka, the itinerant peddler, whose patter charms the pretty village girl, Katya. She takes his ring and he vows to return when he finishes selling his wares and lead her to "God's Holy Church". One of Russia's greatest folk songs. Oil paints, lacquer, metallic powders, silver. Hinged papier-mache box, no border decoration. 4¼"x3"x1". $250.

Colorful "kitchen" painting by a talented unknown Mstera artist from the early 1980s. Initialled "K.T". Egg tempera, lacquer, papier-mache. Corner bumped (not obvious), couple of dimples/scuffs (also not obvious). Very good condition. 6½"x12½".$325.
