Vintage Dolls The Russian Shop / Maison Russe 800-778-9404
The Republic of Mordovia (also known as Mordvinia) is today a federal republic of Russia (since 1994). When this doll was made Mordovia had been part of the Soviet Union since the 1930s and was known as Mordovian Autonomous Socialist Soviet Republic (Mordovian ASSR). The republic is located in the eastern part of Russia. The Mordvins are predominantly Christian and are related to the Mari and the Finns. The Russian language paper label states that it - the tag - was printed in 1992. The doll was made a couple of years earlier by the Meltsansky Wood Works. This type of doll was known for a while by the acronym "DOK" (as in "dock") dolls. Excellent condition, no cracks, lacquer dab leftover from production on last doll. 5 nest, 5" to 1 1/4".
