      St. Nicholas of Myra, Holy Hierarch and Wonderworker. Little is known historically of the life of St. Nicholas. He is known to have been Archbishop of Myra and he may have participated in the Council of Nicea in 325. He is venerated as patron saint of Greece, Russia, Kingdom of Naples, Sicily, Lorraine, and by several cities of Europe including Moscow. On his feast day he was celebrated as benefactor of children in both the Eastern and Western Churches.

St. Nicholas is depicted in full bishop's clothing wearing a mitre and panagia , holding a gospel and blessing with his right hand. To his left and right are small icons of Christ and The Mother of God in the clouds. Colorful free-hand border decoration surrounds the icon. 3 1/2" x 4 1/4" x 3/4". Hinged papier-mache, egg tempera, lacquer.
