"Dala" Horse from Sweden
The Russian Shop / Maison Russe 800-778-9404
An older vintage Swedish "Dala" (aka "Dalecarelian") horse created by Nils Olsson.
This horse was painted yellow/white and hand carved in the traditional style of Scandinavian folk art. The harness is painted in red, green, blue and yellow. The shape of the horse is said to be derived from the clock industry when horses were carved from corners cut off from the round clock faces. Nusnas is a small village outside Mora. The wood used comes from the slow-growing pine forest around Lake Siljan. This horse has its original rectangle gold foil sticker on the belly: "Akta Dalahemslojd, Tillv. Nils Olsson, Nusnas, Mora, Sweden". Slightest bit of wear, otherwise near fine. The dimensions are almost 4" x 3 1/2". [#FA-SD-WH1] HOLD
