In 1703, Peter I (The Great) founded St. Petersburg on barren marshland on the Neva River at the head of the Gulf of Finland.
300 years later, in 2003, this nesting doll was painted and given the title: "White Nights of St. Petersburg". Painted are some of the landmarks of this great city, starting with
The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood (this is where Tsar Alexander
II was assassinated), St. Isaac's Cathedral (2nd tallest church in
Russia), The Stock Exchange and Rostral Columns, The Admiralty and the
Peter and Paul Cathedral Fortress. Excellent condition, brightly painted and finished with glossy polished lacquer.
