Classic Khokhloma Art.
These pictures are scans from a series of color postcards published by "Planeta" (Moscow) in 1981.
Some wonderful artists and their high-quality works are shown here. Khokhloma is Russian wood painting folk art. It first appeared in the second half of the 17th century in today's Koverninsky District of the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. It can be traced back to monastic and peasant culture. A great page about Khokhloma and how it is made can be found here.
