A brief note about the older factory marks (backstamps). Around 1991 the Lomonosov factory used a red mark. This mark varied from dark to light red. (See examples below.) If the mark is in English, then the piece was intended for the export market. In the absence of an English mark, item can either be an unmarked older piece or was intended for sale in Russia (the internal market). The most recent pieces - the last few years - have marks (not shown) in blue stating "Hand Decorated", the LFZ monogram, the date 1744 and St. Petersburg together with a holographic sticker with "export quality" and the factory monogram on them. To add to the confusion, the factory in 2005 reverted to its old pre-revolutionary name of Imperial Porcelain Factory.
