Russian Nesting Doll

The Russian Shop / Maison Russe
800-778-9404

This is the Vladimirskaya image, also known as the Mother of God of Tenderness. She tilts Her head towards Her Child in a gesture of compassion. Other icons in this beautiful set include Christ the Teacher, St. Nicholas, another, smaller version of the mother of God and, finally, a six-winged seraphim, the celestial being that resides in the highest choir of the Christian angelic hierarchy. The dolls are decorated with woodburnt artwork and gold leaf enhancements.

Pyrography, also known as pokerwork or wood burning, is the artistic technique of decorating wood with a heated tool. Pyrography means "writing with fire". Beautiful and subtle effects are achieved in sepia or dark strokes and makes a bold and dramatic design on the wood.

Made in Sergiev Posad (Russia) in 2010. 5 nest, 7" to 2".
