Paintings of Vincent Van Gogh. Igor Shepel, the Russian artist and interpreter of this magnificent doll, covers Van Gogh's short and intense career, paying particular attention to his "happy" period. Paintings of sunflowers, wheat fields, his bedroom, and self-portraits abound. Van Gogh's color palette, distinctive dashed brush strokes, the hot reds and yellows of his "Mediterranean" period, which he increasingly used symbolically to represent his own moods, the softer palette of mauves and pinks in his later period, his agitated brush--are all represented on this fantastic doll. Some paintings include: Van Gogh with bandaged ear and pipe, portrait of Pure Tanguy and Dr. Gachet, of Patience Escalier and Postman Joseph Rouline, La Berceuse (Augustine Roulin), Self-Portrait (in Saint-Remy, 1889), Self-Portrait in Front of the Easel and many more. Covers Van Gogh's work in Paris, Nunen and Antwerp (1881 - 1888) -- Arles (1888 to 1889) -- Saint-Remy (1889 - 1890) -- Auvers-sur-Oise (Summer of 1890). Fine painting on all portions of each doll - most pieces have two paintings on the front and back. Each doll is titled as to period. Signed and dated by the artist: Igor Shepel, Rostov-on-the-Don, 1994. 12", 20 nest. A one-of-a-kind piece. Sorry, sold. One only.
