First Russian Matryoshka Doll

      Elegant recreation of the very first Matryoshka doll by Sergei Malutin (1859-1937) and Vasily Zvezdochkin (1876-1956). The first Russian Matryoshka was made in A. Mamantov's workshop in the late 1890s. In 1919 it was acquired by the Toy Museum at Sergiev-Posad, Russia, where it has been housed for 90 years. This historical doll also goes by the name of "Matryoshka with Cockerel". Painted with nicely executed woodburnt (pyrographic) enhancements. 8 nest. 6" down to 1". Paint, woodburning and lacquer.
