The Russian Shop Maison Russe 1720 Ogden Ave. Lisle, Illinois 60532 We began our Russian gift shop and mail-order business in 1972. Word of our existence grew until finally we became well known throughout North and South America, as well as Europe, Australia and Asia. We attribute our longevity to the blending of our first-hand knowledge of all things Russian with an American connoisseur perspective and business expertise. We offer unique and unusual Russian gifts: Lomonosov "Cobalt Net" porcelain, fine filigree tea glass holders, the Russian Borzoi, Royal "objet d'art", Orthodox icons and crosses, traditional "matryoshka" nesting dolls, miniature painting on lacquer boxes, an interesting selection of books, beautiful note cards and much, much more. We've been on the world-wide web since 1995 doing our own web design and photography. We make changes all the time to keep our website well up-to-date, and well stocked. We can honestly say there's something new at www.TheRussianShop.com nearly everyday! We are often asked, "Why is the shop called Maison Russe ?" There are a couple of reasons. When we first opened the shop Leonid Brezhnev was the head of Communist Russia. The cold war climate made it necessary to come up with a discreet sounding name, something that wouldn't be a "red flag" (no pun intended). We chose Maison Russe primarily for this reason. Another reason for the name choice was that French was the language embraced by the royal courts of Europe, which included the Russian court. Maison Russe is French for "Russian House." Our shop is in picturesque Lisle, Illinois, 20 miles west of Chicago. It's come to be known as The Russian Shop as well as Maison Russe. We hope you'll enjoy browsing our website. There's a lot to see! Write to us with any questions:
