Persian Brass Samovar.
This samovar was probably made in the early to mid 20th century. It is of so-called "village" production and was imported into the US during the fairly common importer/wholesaler sweeps that were popular during late 1960s through mid-1980s (after which it became too costly). The overall condition is good, the samovar leans to the right, has no major dents, and the inside displays fairly heavy use calcium deposits. The konforka (top) and steam pressure valve are present. The wooden handles are worn (left one is original, the right one has been replaced and repaired) and the cover has black bakelite grips, also replacements. The warm golden brass has not been polished. The ash grill is present, but the cleanout cover is gone. This samovar has an attractive key (spigot).
15" tall, 5 pounds. 1 only.

Brass Samovar Lamp.
Back in the mid-1980s, when interest in the opening up of the Soviet Union had begun to emerge, manufacturers of all kinds began to produce gifts and accessories for the long dormant Russian market. We could go on and one about all the short-lived copies of Russian arts and crafts we began to see (nesting dolls, wood carving, lacquer boxes, enamel pendants, etc.,) but one of the most unusual items was this brass lamp samovar. While the act of converting a samovar into a lamp can devalue it, this samovar was strictly made with the intent to be a lamp.
The samovar form is the "repka", or turnip, made famous by the master craftsman, Larshinov, in the 1870s. The stamps, which are not authentic, read (in Russian): "(Made in) Tula - Vasily and Alexander Batashev" with two circle stamps, one with a bust and inscription of "Tsar Alexander II" and one which states (in English): "Orig. made 1870". These stamps are also imprinted into the base of the samovar. The key is especially well made. The samovar is complete with all the original fittings for converting it into a lamp, if desired. (Shade not included.) In very good condition, though could use a bit of polishing.
17" tall, 9 1/2 pounds. 1 only.
